What are the trainer's credentials

Where are group classes held
Gentle Canine holds group classes at The Bark House, 13 Contractor Drive, Hermon, ME and Penobscot Veterinary Services, 411 Davis Rd, Bangor Maine. However, we are separate entities, so please do not contact them for class information. They will not have the answers.
How do I know if I need group or private lessons
Group classes are great for bonding and learning general manners like recall and leash walking. If you or your dog are uncomfortable in a group, you may want private sessions. If you are having problem behaviors such as leash reactivity or barking, you should schedule private sessions. If you are unsure which to choose send an email describing your dog's behavior and we can help you decide.
What is marker/clicker training
Marker training is a method of letting your dog know they did a good thing and reinforcing them for it. We teach the dog that a word or a click means they did a good things and will be paid for it. Food is often used as the reward. It is very satisfying and can be done quickly.
What should I bring to class
Treats! You should bring a few types of easily consumable treats. This can be kibble, soft training treats, and meat treats. A lightweight mat for your dog to relax on, water for you and your dog, a quiet toy, and patience.
Will I always have to give food for my dog to listen
No. Once your dog knows a behavior, they will not need frequent food reinforcement. However, rewards should continue intermittently to maintain good performance. We will also go over other types of reinforcement during lessons.
My dog is on a special diet limiting what he can have for food.
Ask your vet if you can use veggies or a single ingredient treat in addition to your dogs food. We will also use alternative rewards like paise, affection and play.
